Koh Samui
Koh Samui is an idyllic tropical retreat with white sandy beaches, azure blue ocean, romantic settings and very friendly people. Koh Samui is one of the most popular wedding destinations in Asia and one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the world today and has been called paradise by many.
This tiny island provides Thailand with a very large portion of it’s tourist generated revenue. From the busy Chaweng beach to the quiet Lamai beach there is something to suit every ones taste and budget. There are numerous attractions and no shortage of things to do in Koh Samui. You can visit the world famous “Big Buddha” or do an eco safari through the jungle. An island tour will highlight the jungle and coastline with the still working rubber plantations. You could treat yourself to a day (or two!)pampering at one of the many spa’s throughout Samui which has become known as one of the spa capitals of the world today. You can take a day out and visit the beautiful Angthong national park by boat, the snorkelling there is world class. How about an eco tour by elephant and back by ox drawn cart to be different? Other activities include bungy jumping, kayaking, and windsurfing.
If you have ever wanted to learn to dive you could do so in a lot worse places than Samui with PADI courses all over the island at very reasonable rates compared to many other countries.
After you have passed the course there are many stunning dive locations to visit in Koh Samui and ½ or full day dives are available. For a complete list of dive operators in Samui follow this LINK. You can take a few hours out and let off some steam at the gun range between Bophut and Chewang, it’s not the cheapest activity in Samui for sure, but is great fun especially if you haven’t fired a gun before.
When we visit Samui we love to take a day or two to chill out and hang around the very laid back Fisherman’s Village right round the corner from Big Buddha at Bophut. There are some great restaurants there and hotels too with great views over the gulf. The vibe is certainly very relaxed and makes for a welcome change especially if you’ve just come from Bangkok! Here is a complete list of Samui’s restaurants.
